Reflex zones
Reflex zone massage
Reflex zones are skin areas that carry contact stimuli to the corresponding inner organs. On this initial basis, an English neurologist, Henry Head, developed a "body map" of the reflex zones that are now named after him. Pains at the surface can be attributed to the organ within and, conversely, the organ can be positively influenced by a massage applied to the correct part of the skin. One method is the connective tissue massage, generally applied wit with the fingertips and often painful but this aspect is inherent to the treatment anti should not be suppressed.
A zone map of the feet originated with the work of the American doctor William H. Fitzgerald and the masseuse Eunice D. Ingham. Together they developed the foot reflex zone massage based on their own findings that posited representation for every body part and organ on the soles of the feet. Through gentle, circular movements, light tapping and strong thumb pressure, each zone can be worked over with extraordinary precision.
